Grinding It Out: The Making of McDonald's, Ray Kroc

McDonalds is one of the most known brand globally. The most surprising thing was that the founder was so determined and positive even though he faced many personal issues throughout his life time. He suffered from diabetes and arthritis. I admired the entrepreneurs attitude and strategic style! He also lied about his age. Ray was the top salesman of his industry. He worked all day and had a very fixed routine. One of my favorite quotes in this piece is “my best years were still ahead.”

Two questions I would ask would be:

(1) Why did you lie so long about your age and how did you think that affected your business career?

(2) If you could, would you have wanted to start a new concept, similar to McDonalds, or are you content with where you stand?

I think that the entrepreneur had a great opinion on hard work. He worked day and night with little to no days off. It changed when his wife became upset with him about it because he worked two jobs, one in the morning and one at night (music). I definitely think that hard work leads to success!

  1. I actually just recently watched "The Founder," the increasingly popular documentary about Ray Kroc. Although many people believe he started McDonald's he was actually the person who decided to franchise it. The real founders were two brothers who very set on the integrity of their business. I find it very surprising that this wildly successful entrepreneur founded his success upon taking credit for someone else's work, and then essentially completely changing their vision.
