7A - Testing the Hypothesis
Hypothesis: College students are arriving late to classes
due to waiting in long coffee lines caused by the lack of staff and space
coffee shops have.
Who: College students & coffee shops on campus
What: Students are arriving late to class because of long
coffee lines
Why: Lack of staff and work space provided to execute orders
at a rapid pace
Do you often find yourself arriving late to class because of long
coffee lines?
Are you willing to sacrifice your attendance for waiting in a coffee
line?
Do you use any Apps to help reduce your wait time? (Tapingo,
Starbucks, etc.)
What would you recommend to these coffee shops to reduce their wait
times?
Do you think that the lack staff and/or work space factors into the
wait times?
Interview #1
Yes
No, because my classes only have a 10-minute grace period in between
classes and I get points deducted from being late.
Yes, I use the Starbucks apps to pre-order my drinks.
Hire more efficient workers
Yes, there should be more staff scheduled at one time and there
should either more on-campus coffee shops or larger coffee facilities.
Interview #2
No
No
No. maybe once or twice but not often.
Have better trained employees that can execute orders the first time
Yes, because if there is not enough space for all the extra
employees, then they are just useless.
Interview #3
Yes
Only if I had already paid for my coffee and know that being tardy
won’t affect my grade
I typically use Starbuck’s App, but the coffee shops on campus don’t use
their app and now I am forced to use Tapingo
There should be more machines that are readily available to increase
execution of coffee orders.
Yes, but the by having more staff, there needs to be more work space
and I don’t know if the campus has space for that.
Interview #4
No
No
I always preorder my coffees on Tapingo 10 minutes before class is
over with so that I don’t have to wait in line for more than one or two
minutes. I often don’t have to wait in line at all sometimes.
I mean, having more staff or more locations on campus would be great.
I also think that Starbucks should let us order drinks off their app instead
of a different app.
yes
Interview #5
Yes
Yes, because most of my classes don’t take attendance
I have the apps on my phone, but I only use them when I go to the
library because I don’t want to take away from my studies.
I think that there should be more staff scheduled to increase
productivity and reduce wait times.
I think that they do factor into the lengthy lines, but where would
you put extra locations?
I learned that there is a demand for more coffee locations
around campus to reduce wait times in lines. There is a limited amount of space
for additional locations on campus. What I noticed is that there cannot be an
increase in staff without an increase in work space. I also noticed that
students liked to use preordering apps instead of waiting in the lines. Students
do value coffee shops on campus and that some are willing to be tardy to class
to get their cup of joe.
The opportunity may actually to be to sell quick coffee machines and partner with the on campus retailers to supply the materials. The small espresso machines that use the small packets are awesome and can even run on a timer. Coffee vending machines could further relieve the crowded locations and provide similar revenues to the retailer. How bout a walk-through window or speed line? I mean people need their freaking coffee so get your slow but out of the way. That is why the make freaking chairs !! Sorry coming down from my caffeine high. Cheers.
ReplyDeleteDo you think the direct and most important cause of students arriving late to class is long coffee lines? Perhaps the lines are quick, but they arrive to the coffee shop late? Maybe there is an opportunity here to create a solution to get students out of the house quicker, thereby eliminating the original source of lateness in the first place.
