The Tampa Bay Bucs started their season off right with an unpredictable win against the Bears. With a crazy win, one would expect the Bucs to have the next day (Monday) off and resume practice on Wednesday. WRONG. The problem here is that teams, like the Bucs, that are known to be weaker tend to think they are invincible when they start out their season with a shocking win, and end up throwing in their season due to cockiness. Despite the impressive win, the head coach, Dirk Koetter, made the decision to continue with practice on Monday and go over all the things that the team did wrong. The team has the problem of getting over excited and thinking that this one game defines their entire season. Although the 29-7 score was shocking, the Bucs still have to build as a team and that means less days off and more conditioning.
WHY DO SOME TOURS SKIP US? The area might not be on your favorite band’s radar for these reasons

Tampa Bay has been overlooked by so many bands and artist. Tampa is showered with concert venues, including Amalie Arena, USF Sun Dome, Raymond James Stadium, and the Mid Florida Credit Union Amphitheater. Some of the challenges that Tampa encounters when trying to attract musical artists and bands include geography, national perception, the venues, and location desire. These bands and artists have the problem of skipping over this beautiful city. They tend to overlook all the successful concerts and festivals that Florida has held when planning and booking their tours.
IRMA LEADS TO FIRING AT USF; The St. Petersburg campus' chancellor is ousted over a "lack of leadership."

The USF St. Petersburg regional chancellor was fired for incompetence and lack of leadership after the passing of Hurricane Irma. The chancellor failed to give her correct location during the hurricane and stated that she was on campus, when she was in Atlanta. She had also hesitated to evacuate students from campus when the storm grew stronger. The chancellor gave false information, thus putting students at risk of harm from the hurricane.
LEGISLATURE FAILED TO PROTECT FLORIDA SENIORS

Hurricane Irma knocked out the power of a Rehabilitation Center at Hollywood Hills and leaves eight residents dead from the overbearing heat from the facility’s failing air conditioning. The Florida Legislature never really pushed for there to be generators in all nursing and rehabilitation facilities until Irma. There were bills made that required all these facilities to install generators, but the bill never passed the Florida Senate. Florida’s Legislature now has the blood of eight civilians on their hands and this problem will not be addressed until the 2018 legislative session.
POWER RETURNS AS RECOVERY DRAGS ON; Most of Tampa Bay can turn the lights on, but other areas in Florida are less fortunate

Hurricane Irma came through and knocked out millions of Floridians power. It is stated that over 99% of Florida’s power has been restored, but what about that remaining 1%? Over 311,600 Floridians are still out of power. Duke Energy is responsible for the slow restoration of power to the less fortunate customers.
Hi Remy,
ReplyDeleteSeveral of your articles point out how impactful the hurricane was, not only through physical damage but also through resultant personal and organizational effects. The article about the USF chancellor being fired for lack of leadership really highlights the importance of risk mitigation, planning, and the necessity of leaders to be able to adapt to change and communicate. The lack of power in Tampa has resulted in a shift within residents' daily lives, which will probably impact daily operations within the city as well as personal and geographical economies.
Seriously I have driven to Atlanta for more than one concert.Tampa is supposed to be a key market for lots of stuff but not for music - grrrr. the opportunity is probably in making a music festival for local bands near the beaches around spring break. Please make that your business thesis and make it happen.
ReplyDeleteDuke energy will be on the coals for a while. I mean they said they spent billions years ago to upgrade the resilience yet this lower rated storm took out the whole system for way too long. The service is so wide spread it is really hard to think they have it any worse than another business that failed us - the cell companies. However, the cell companies don't have to publicly report the problem and the power company is required to answer the media. Kind of a double standard. I lost power and 4g ... leaving me in the dark - literally.
